Course Overview

The Flight Procedure Validation Training course provides pilots and operational personnel with the knowledge and skills required to assess and validate Instrument Flight Procedures (IFPs) in accordance with international standards established by ICAO. The objective is to enable participants to systematically evaluate flight procedures in terms of flyability, safety, and operational suitability, and to actively support the validation process.

Course Content

  • Fundamentals of flight procedure design (PANS-OPS)
  • Introduction to ground & flight validation
  • Performance-Based Navigation (PBN): RNAV, RNP
  • Obstacle assessment and terrain analysis
  • Human factors and cockpit workload
  • Navigation systems (GNSS, ILS, VOR/DME)
  • Regulatory framework (ICAO Doc 9906)

Target Group

  • Flight inspection pilots

  • Air navigation service provider (ANSP) staff

Simulator Training - Practical Module

Validation flights are executed under realistic operational conditions. The simulator module covers:

  • Flight path guidance and stability assessment
  • Cockpit workload and usability evaluation
  • Navigation performance assessment (e.g. GNSS deviations)
  • Terrain and obstacle conflict scenarios
  • Adverse weather conditions (IMC simulation)
  • System failures and signal degradation scenarios
  • Application of evaluation methodologies per ICAO guidance

Standards

  • ICAO Doc 9906
